Things seem to be changing in Kirkland Washington. Don A. has resigned the presidency and Dr. Joseph C. has been selected to fill the vacancy.
Furthermore, NWU has moved from having "owner districts" to having "participating districts," and these districts have a specified number of representatives that make up the Board-of-Directors. Within the current board structure, the school finds itself in a position of not wanting to service any more debt, not wishing to raise the tuition, but needing additional funds to add onto the campus.
As a result, by a motion, the NUTOP (Northwest University's The Office of the President) and the Chair are evaluating the participation levels of the current district board makeup. Alaska, among other districts, is made up of relatively small churches, and we don't have a lot of them, in comparison to other more populous districts. As a result, our financial participation may not be sufficient for our level of board representation.
Again, I believe that the above leaders will be looking at the level of participation of it's present participating districts, and looking for other new district participating partners.
As the Northwest evaluates its future position on educational partnerships, Alaska needs to do the same. Each of us has to determine the most effective educational offerings, and their locations, to meet the needs of those we serve. We truly serve together, but the levels of participation are yet to be determined.
Here in Alaska we have been working hard on defining leadership development through discipleship and education. Alaska must be prepared to be responsible for its own future in the area of equipping those who can not attend a regional, or General Council training facility.
